I know you’ve heard me say this before, but goodness time slips by so quickly! How can it be December already? How can it be Christmas time...the end of 2018...Eden’s second birthday?!?!😯 What?!?! How can our sweet little Eden be turning two? She states it so sweet and clearly. There’s no mistaking what she’s saying when she replies to her daddy’s question, “Eden, how old will you be on your birthday?” With clear confidence, in case we are unsure, she proclaims, “two.” Oh my...it’s going so fast! I knew it would. I have experience in this area, so I preach to myself and anyone who will listen...enjoy this stage, this season...before you know it, it will be over...life is such a precious gift full of twist and turns, highs and lows...you know😉...you’re doing it too...😉
Eden and I get to hang out together on most Monday’s. Most days we just hang out and play, go visit MeMe & PaPaw (my parents), eat waffles, watch Little Bear and play some more. The other day we went on a shopping trip together. We’ve been shopping before, but this time it was different. She helped, interacted, participated. We took our first little trip to a sweet toy store. This is the same store I used to take the boys to when they were growing up...I even worked at Kidoodles as a young adult...different location...different owners...different look...but the toys are the same😃...and the reaction I saw was oh so familiar. She walked around and looked mesmerized at all the fun stuff. “Oooh YaYa. Oooh pretty. Oooh, I like it.” Sweet nostalgia...traveling down a very familiar road, but getting to see it with new eyes and a new perspective, not to mention the fact that on this trip I spent little to no time on the dinosaur and wild animal isle.LOL!
Much like the experience I had becoming a mom for the first time, when people would hear that Darren and I were becoming grandparents they would exclaim, “there’s nothing like it! Being a grandparent is the most amazing experience! It’s not that you love them more, it’s just different...” And they were right! It is different. It is wonderful! Our days are sweeter because of her. I think it’s because we’re not in the throws of it and because of this our perspective is different. I think as a grandparent we get to step back and see more of the big picture rather than the micro worries of, “did she eat her vegetables...did she...have I...” It’s a beautiful gift that God has given us and we are truly thankful. We are also blessed because we get to see her, talk to her almost every day. I know we are incredibly blessed. I have determined that I will never take this for granted! I will always be grateful for this season, etch it into my heart and mind, treasure it in my heart, so that when this season passes as all seasons do - she’s growing and changing so fast - it will bring a sweet smile to my face and a glisten to my eyes as I remember.
I will never forget the moment we found out that she was on her way. Will and Megan lived half way across the globe and we were going to have our usual bi-weekly face-time call on a Sunday afternoon. We knew that they were thinking about starting a family, but even still... I had even had a dream and had shared it with Darren earlier that morning. That afternoon Darren had a little minor emergency that he had to take care of, so he wasn’t in the house when they called. They held up a sign and I read it slower than normal, because I just couldn’t believe that I had just had a dream the night before! The kiddos took a video of our reaction. Fun times! When their stint overseas was over, they moved back to our area and once again we knew we were so blessed. I know it could be so different, many grandparents experiences are so different. It’s all sweet whether near or far, but I’m thankful that at least for this season we get to experience being grandparents up close and face to face. That very same conversation they asked us what we wanted to be called. Who knew that the names we chose would influence the name of our little shop. You see, I was in the process of starting this little business venture. In reality, it had been in my heart for decades, but it was really coming to fruition with paint and metal signs. It totally made sense that it would bear the same name. Darren and I chose to play off of our last name once again. I wanted to be called YaYa and he would go by YaPaw. Who knew how much we would love hearing her say our names...who knew...beautiful...treasures. Who knew how much I would love hearing people ask if I’m YaYa and love telling the story of how we came up with that name...who knew?!? It’s been a precious and memorable couple of years full of fun, adventure, and laughter...lots of laughter.
Darren and the boys plus Morgan have been doing a “couch to five-K.” The other day Darren came home grinning from ear to ear. When I asked him how their run was, he overflowed with unusual joy and excitement...not the usual response...not about a run. He shared what made this run so special. Megan wasn’t feeling well so Will brought Eden along. They usually include a couple of laps around the football field in their route, just for nostalgic purposes, so for this run they decided to just do their whole thing in and around the football field. He brought some of her favorite balls, placed her on the twenty yard line and they all did circles around her. Darren exclaimed that it was the best, most fun run yet. He told it with such detail I could almost see them and hear her squeals and their laughter. “Eden made it better,” he said with a chuckle, then he got a semi sad look on his face, “I didn’t have my phone. I didn’t take a video.” I told him, “etch it in your mind and retell the story...it’s a good one!”
“Eden made it better.” That is so very true! With each of our children, all six of them now, Darren and I ask each other, “what did we do before...came along?” Each of our children add such a special touch to our lives and now with Eden, our first grandchild, she makes it even better! Eden means delight and Grace means God’s favor...delight in God’s favor. Precious, right? I think so too!
This is my prayer for you sweet Eden Grace. I pray that you grow in wisdom and stature, find favor with God and man, that you come to surrender your life to Jesus, love the Lord with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and I pray that you delight in God’s favor. Happy Birthday to our sweet joy and delight! Happy Birthday sweet Eden!💗💗💗 We love you oodles and gobbs!
