I read an article in a magazine not long ago where the author shared a family tradition that was so sweet. In her family, instead of giving cards filled with loving thoughts, each person stands and shares a few of their favorite things about the Birthday boy/girl. There’s something so powerful about this...don’t you think? There’s something powerful about putting it out there for all to hear and see how much someone means to you. I love this idea! After reading it I thought goodness...we need to do this...then I realized that I’ve kinda been doing this with my birthday blogs. I love sharing stories about my family and sharing stories about those I love most on their birthday seems like a natural fit. I love letting people know how much they mean to me...
Today our middle daughter in law/love is celebrating her birthday. To me and Darren, she is our middle daughter. God has been so sweet to add three precious daughters to our family through our sons. She and Kolby met at OBU. Morgan is our only that is not from our hometown...we didn’t have the sweet privilege of watching her grow up, but her precious momma shares lots of pics and Morgan shares stories about her childhood...I love hearing her stories. They have made their home here in Blanchard and Morgan has been working with us at Y&S for the past year. As with all the kiddos, she jumps in and helps at YaYa’s when needed. This has been a sweet season of getting to know her even better through work. Work has a way of knitting hearts together.
I will never forget the phone call I got from Kolby letting us know that he had met someone. I don’t remember everything from that conversation, but I remember him sharing that he met THE someone...and hearing him say, “she’s special...she’s tall and has curly dark hair...I think she’s the one...” I remember the sweet peace I experienced just hearing him talk about her...the peace that you feel after you pray prayers and lift up holy hands for the sake of your children. The peace that you experience when you feel God’s presence and know He is hearing and answering those prayers. The reality that God has your children and loves them more...more than any earthly parent could ever even imagine...
The first time we got to put a name with a face and hear her sweet voice was at our lake house. In retrospect, this was the perfect place to first meet her since she was raised near a lake in northeastern Oklahoma. She drove down with her cousin that day and brought food from her parents restaurant. Kolby had shared that she worked in her parents restaurant and loved to cook. I remember being nervous for her and Kolby being so excited for us to meet her. I remember how important it was to him that Will & Megan got to meet her and got to know her a little before they went overseas for a couple of years. It was a sweet time and we thoroughly enjoyed the fried catfish, hush puppies and oreo truffles from her parents restaurant. It did not take us long to learn of her love for food and cooking.
As always, so many stories come to mind...but this morning I keep going back to those first visits that summer at the lake house. We came in late from playing on the lake and by the time we finished with supper it was well into the night and the mosquitos were out in full force. I always try to have s’more fixings available...just in case. The kiddos started talking about fixing some, broke out all the fixins and proceeded to turn on the stove. I will never forget the look on Morgan’s face!lol! A little confused, she asked if we were going to start a fire outside. Kolby showed off a few swollen whelps from mosquitos bites and said a firm,”no thank you.” She laughed at us and told us we were cheating...LOL! S’mores have been affectionately named “cheater s’mores” ever since. Any time we take a shortcut while cooking, we affectionately call it cheater...with a wink and a giggle...precious memories of first moments together.
Happy Birthday sweet Morgan, affectionately MoMo...so named by our precious granddaughter Eden. You are truly a blessing to our family and more importantly a sweet blessing to Kolby. Although you are our middle daughter, God saw fit that you were the last to complete our children...children that we prayed for...daughter’s that we interceded for while praying for our sons. We love you dearly. We love how fiercely loyal you are. We love how you love the Lord💗we love how you love Kolby💗We love that you work and play hard, and during a board or card game, your competitive nature comes out in full force...LOL...and when it’s a game of nertz...oh my goodness! Watching these girls play this game is exciting and pretty entertaining! Watching how God has added you to our family and knitted you into our hearts is beautiful and precious. Love you sweet girl!!! Happy Birthday!💗
